Users have full control over the look of the fire, the smoke, the glow, the fireplace appearance, and more. While it makes a charming screensaver, this program's real strength is in its features. In addition, the sound does a decent job of imitating the crackle of flames. The logs are deteriorating to cinder, the flames leap randomly, and the program excels with the little touches like sparks and ash floating upward with the smoke. While it will not fool anyone into thinking your computer is on fire, it does a good job of avoiding cartoonish imagery. We were pleased by the fireplace and how easy it was to set up.
We had no trouble navigating it and customizing our flames. The program is well labeled and all the options make perfect sense. The interface is so intuitive that users will not need a trip to the Help file, though it is available if necessary. While simple to operate, the program's options are what makes it red hot.
